Punishable offence to fail to declare the importation of weapons

There has always existed a requirement for declaring the importation of weapons to Swedish Customs when passing the border. As from 1 July 2012 there will be a tightening of weapons legislation and it will now be a punishable offence failing to submit a declaration. The changes are one stage in the government´s work for preventing the criminal use of firearms and to prevent unsuitable persons gaining access to weapons.
This tightening up of weapons legislation means that anyone who fails to declare the importation from another EU country of weapons and ammunition to Swedish Customs can be fined. Where a person on repeated occasions fails to declare the import of weapons, it is now possible to cancel the licence as well as confiscating the weapon.
